The Team at The Hellmouth have been following the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and reviewing all possible options on a daily basis. We are constantly monitoring the situation and have discussed our options with the City of Los Angeles, Hilton LAX, and our fellow convention runners. The Hellmouth is an Intimate by Design event, with just under 1,000 attendees in 2019 (our 4th year) and happening approximately three months from now. At this time, we have no plans to cancel or postpone WhedonCon 2020, scheduled for June 5-7, 2020.

We are watching this situation develop and for now are erring on the side of optimism while taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of our fan community.

The safety of our attendees, guests, exhibitors, and team members are foremost in our minds. We are working on backup plans if, as we get closer, we have to postpone. We will keep you updated of any changes on our side. Stay safe and please support your local businesses.

Please check our website (www.The Hellmouth.com) and and follow us on social media for updates.

We have confirmed that the Hilton LAX has taken additional measures, “developed in consultation with global and local public health authorities (including the WHO and CDC) to make our cleaning and hygiene protocols even more rigorous. This includes increasing the frequency of cleaning public areas (including lobbies, elevators, door handles, public bathrooms, etc.), continued use of hospital-grade disinfectant, adjusting food and beverage service in accordance with current food safety recommendations, and have increased the deployment of antibacterial hand sanitizers.” The Hellmouth will have sanitizer stations set up throughout the convention. High-traffic areas will be disinfected regularly. Items that will be handled frequently such as microphones will be disinfected regularly. Non-latex gloves (two by two, hands of blue) will be used by everyone in the Gaming Room. Gloves and hand sanitizer will be used by all of our staff in high-contact areas (Registration, Autograph Alley, etc.). We will have health safety posters clearly displayed around the convention. These posters will remind attendees to wash and disinfect their hands regularly (sung to attendees’ choice of the opening theme from Buffy, Firefly, Star Trek, or any other song) and to cover their mouths when sneezing or coughing.  If you are in a high-risk demographic (older adults and people with chronic medical conditions) we ask you to take extra precautions. The safety of our attendees, guests, exhibitors, and team members are foremost in our minds. We will be monitoring the situation regarding COVID-19 in the state of California, along with Los Angeles County and City of Los Angeles, and will re-evaluate our plans if there are any significant changes. Please check our website (www.The Hellmouth.com) and follow us on social media for any future updates. The The Hellmouth Team is hard at work right now to make sure that this year’s convention will be fun, exciting, and safe. We look forward to seeing everyone in June. The Hellmouth 2020 will be held June 5-7, 2020 at the Hilton LAX, 5711 West Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045. www.The Hellmouth.com
